See Kate Sew - Craft Space Tour

Today we have the amazingly creative Kate from See Kate Sew, she is so original in a sea of sometimes otherwise... I am clearly one of her biggest fans :)

Hello! I'm Kate from see kate sew! I'm so glad Taylor invited me to be a part of this event because I needed a reason to get my sewing space a little bit more organized! I'll take you on a mini-tour of my dining-room-turned-studio space and then share a few ways that I make my space an inspiring place conducive to creativity
My husband learned early on that I needed my own room for my sewing and crafts. Pretty much after he stepped on his first pin, he decided it was necessary. (Whoops!) So while we were shopping for a place to live, we looked at each place with that in mind. In our current space I have the whole dining room! It's blocked off with a makeshift baby gate so all the pins are safe inside.

My sewing space is usually a total mess! I usually have about 10 projects going on at once and I thrive in chaos!

This is where I sew:

How to make your space a place where you can be inspired:
I think inspiration is what all of us crafty girls are really after. That's why we pin things like crazy and knock off anything in sight. But there is no feeling better than the feeling you get when you've thought up something from scratch, without copying another idea. It's such a great feeling and I find that if I surround myself with inspiration, sometimes great ideas just pop into my head! Here are a few things I do to make this happen:

Let your crafts take over: I mean if you have the space, don't feel like you have to put them away every night and get them out again. It might be a luxury to have a whole room, but even if you have just a table dedicated to sewing or scrapbooking, make it a place where that is all you do there. So you can leave your machine or pages out and resume again later without the hassle of putting everything away. I used to sew at the kitchen table and every night I had to clear it off. Then the next day I was less motivated to sew because I had to get it all back out. If you feel like you can sew anytime you can act quickly when you get a great idea!

Decorate with supplies:I like my sewing room to be more of studio or workshop than a pretty page from a magazine. So I put my zippers on the wall, my thread in plain sight. I have stacks of fabric all over the place! I am often drawn to a pretty button that will inspire a whole project, or a combination of thread and fabric that becomes another. Supplies foster creativity, so keep them visible!

Sometimes you might get a great idea and you want to do it right now! But if you don't have the right supplies, a trip to the craft store can break that creative streak. So keep everything you think you might use again. Keep scraps, keep patterns, And keep it organized!

Put things on the wall that inspire YOU:Gabrielle Chanel inspires me, so I put up my favorite quote from her on the wall. Japanese art and fashion inspire me, so I put up some japanese postcards. My little boy inspires me, so he's on the wall. I just tape things up there as I go. Make your wall your tangible pinterest. I change things around all the time.

Display things you are proud of: It will keep you creating!

A few more tips:
-Keep it clean! I vacuum once a week and restack all my fabric, etc. It keeps me organized enough to get things done efficently, but still allows me to make a mess in between vacuums!
-Open the window! Sometimes it's amazing what fresh air and a glimpe of the blue sky can do for your creativity!

-Have lots of supplies at your disposal. In my craft room I have a big metal chest of drawers. It is really the center of my craft room. It holds all the supplies that I can't display as well as varieties of adhesives, tapes, more zippers and anything else you can imagine! I have more plastic drawers under my sewing desk, full of scrap fabric and patterns. In a moment of creativity the worst thing is having to run out for something you don't have! So keep everything, even if you don't know if you'll ever use it again!

Welp, those are my tips! I hope you'll be able to create a CREATIVE space! Stop by my blog see kate sew for more creativity!

Thanks for having me Taylor!!

Thanks Kate :) I love the idea of using supplies to decorate, I mean who doesn't think a wall of colorful zippers are pretty? Link up your craft room HERE.

Love to hear what you think!
